In the funky year of 1976, a young marketing student, by the name of Barry McIntyre, would go on to develop a new and exciting water-based sports club at his university, that went by National University of Ireland, Dublin, at the time. However, UCD Canoe Club, more affectionately known as the Disco Paddlers, would also become a community made of people who didn't just share the common interest of kayaking but who also possessed the same weird and wonderful qualities, which made them not just join but buckle up for the bumpy river ride!

OUR STORY

WHAT WE DO

The club's activities take in all kayak disciplines including; marathon racing, freestlye, kayak-surfing, white-water river running, slalom and canoe polo.
The sport is open to all, with no previous experience necessary.
The club provides all equipment with introductory training in the on-campus pool.
Emphasis is placed on safe, fun river trips which are held nearly every weekend with top-class national kayak instructors.
The club boasts a friendly atmosphere with a very social calendar, with events including the Irish colleges Kayak Intervarsities.
